The individual made a comparison between past and present costs to make home changes, saying “Around 5 years ago when my circle of friends was getting married and moving into our new HDBs, the average renovation cost was 50-60k…now I hear it’s in the six digits!”

In response to the post, many shared a breakdown of their total home renovation cost. “100k (for a) 5 room, but it was absolutely everything in every room (in) the entire house as we bought resale from HDB. Didn’t pay an ID, went direct for each specialty,” one said.

Another said they spent a total of $113k, writing, “$70k for 20-year old 5-room resale. Hacking, carpentry (living, dining, master, study, kitchen) plumbing, electricity, tiles for whole flat, windows, doors and rebuilding a wall. Plus $42k more on toilet stuff, all room D&N curtains, kitchen appliances, living and dining room furniture, electronics, aircon (Daikin system 4), mattress, and random ikea stuff like plates cups…Just done mid-year 2022. Home fully livable & furnished with the above budget… I have the main contractor manage (it) for me.”
